Govt Degree College No.1 hosts first JMC-level exhibition showcasing student innovation

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Government Degree College No.1 hosted a comprehensive inter-collegiate exhibition on Tuesday at the Joint Management Committee (JMC) level, bringing together students from across the region to showcase projects in information technology, arts and science.

According to organisers, 91 student groups from 12 public sector colleges of Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and Darazinda participated in the event, presenting a wide range of projects aimed at demonstrating practical applications of academic learning.

Regional Director Higher Education Fazal Hadi, JMC Coordinator Syed Abid Hussain Shah and Deputy Regional Director Iqbal Khan attended the exhibition, along with faculty members and students from participating institutions.

During the event, students displayed dozens of projects spanning scientific innovation, creative arts and digital solutions. A panel of experts was constituted to evaluate the entries, with criteria including originality, depth of research, relevance to real-world problems, practical utility and communication skills of the participants.

College administration officials said the primary objective of the exhibition was to highlight the practical value of education beyond textbook knowledge. They noted that such platforms encouraged students to engage with contemporary challenges and explore sustainable solutions rather than limiting themselves to theoretical understanding.

Speakers at the event emphasised that in the current academic and professional environment, degrees alone were insufficient without technical skills and awareness of market demands. They said activities of this nature helped equip students with competencies aligned with evolving industry requirements and could play a critical role in shaping their future careers.

Participants and visiting faculty appreciated the enthusiasm and creativity demonstrated by students, observing that competitive academic platforms foster confidence and enable young learners to think along internationally recognised standards.

The initiative by Government Degree College No.1 was widely acknowledged as a positive step towards promoting applied learning and academic collaboration among institutions in the region.
