CHARSADDA: The District Population Welfare Office on Friday organised an awareness ceremony and walk to mark World Population Day, highlighting the need for balanced population growth and sustainable use of national resources.
The event was led by District Population Officer Fazal Azeem Khan and attended by officials, field staff, Family Welfare Assistants and representatives from different walks of life.
Addressing the participants, District Population Officer Fazal Azeem Khan and other speakers said World Population Day provided an opportunity to reflect on how the country could meet the growing needs of its population with limited resources.
They noted that Pakistan’s rapidly increasing population was placing immense pressure on natural resources, basic public services and development goals, while also affecting key sectors such as education, healthcare, employment and the environment.
The speakers said unchecked population growth remained one of the country’s major development challenges and stressed that balanced population growth was essential for sustainable economic and social progress.
They emphasised that family planning should not be viewed merely as a personal or household decision but as a national priority that could contribute to improving living standards and ensuring the efficient utilisation of available resources.
The participants were told that achieving a peaceful, educated and prosperous society required maintaining a balance between population growth and available resources.
The ceremony concluded with an awareness walk aimed at promoting public understanding of responsible family planning, population management and sustainable development.
