DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Deputy Commissioner Dera Hikamat Ullah has directed strict action against profiteering and illegal encroachments in Zafarabad.
On his instructions, Assistant Commissioner Dr Muhammad Hamid Siddiq conducted a surprise inspection of various shops and checked prices, quality of food items and official rate lists. A shopkeeper involved in overcharging was sealed on the spot, while other traders were issued strict warnings.
Traders were directed to prominently display official price lists and ensure the sale of essential commodities at government-approved rates. The Assistant Commissioner warned that further violations would result in strict legal action, including possible imprisonment.
An operation was also conducted against temporary and illegal encroachments along Zafarabad Road, during which several encroachments were removed. Encroachers were given 24 hours to voluntarily clear the remaining encroachments, failing which a full operation would be launched.
The Assistant Commissioner also checked meat prices and quality and seized illegal cigarettes during the inspection.
Dr Hamid Siddiq said action against profiteering, violations of official rates and illegal encroachments would continue without discrimination to protect public rights and ensure the availability of quality essential commodities at official prices.
