PESHAWAR: The number of patients registered with Hamza Foundation Welfare Thalassemia Hospital has risen to 1,577, including 1,361 thalassemia and 149 hemophilia patients, highlighting the growing need for regular blood donations and financial support.
The figures were shared during a meeting chaired by the Foundation’s founding chairman, Ijaz Ali Khan, to review blood donation camps and welfare activities. Medical Director Dr. Tariq Khan also attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed that since 2006, the Foundation has collected over 196,000 donated blood bags and supplied more than 237,000 screened blood bags to public and private hospitals under safe blood transfusion protocols.
Chairman Ijaz Ali Khan said around 70 percent of the Foundation’s donated blood is used annually for thalassemia patients, who require life-saving transfusions every 10 to 15 days.
He said the Foundation has also conducted 457 prenatal (CVS) tests, identifying 131 affected pregnancies and helping prevent the birth of children with thalassemia.
Ijaz Ali Khan urged the government, philanthropists, welfare organisations and the public to extend financial support and actively participate in blood donation drives to help save the lives of children suffering from thalassemia and other blood disorders.
