JAMRUD Khyber district is witnessing an agricultural revolution, with significant increases in the production of high-quality vegetables, fruits, olives, Zafraan, and mushrooms.
Director of Agriculture Khyber, Zia-ul-Islam Dawar, announced that the district’s specialty vegetables are being exported abroad for the first time, marking a historic achievement.
The district has established large-scale olive groves in Bara, Jamrud, Landi Kotal, and Mullagori, and is extracting high-quality oil using modern machinery. The oil, branded as “Khyber Oil,” is gaining popularity.
The department has also established guava and orange orchards on 250 acres and vegetable farms on hundreds of acres, resulting in the export of peas and bitter gourd.
Dawar stated that the department will provide advanced seeds for vertical vegetable production to farmers in February and March, aiming to cultivate vegetables on over 75 acres.
The department is promoting kitchen gardening, empowering women to contribute to agriculture. Mushroom cultivation is also thriving, gaining popularity among locals. Dawar emphasized that the department is providing seeds, equipment, training, and facilities to local farmers, aiming to achieve self-sufficiency in agriculture and create employment opportunities.
