PESHAWAR: A weekly review meeting on governance matters was held under the chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah. The meeting was attended by departmental secretaries and senior officials, while deputy commissioners joined via video link.
The forum was informed that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government continues its good governance initiatives to ensure improved public service delivery across the province. As part of the ongoing anti-encroachment campaign being carried out on the directives of the provincial government, a total of 1,289 kanals of state land has so far been retrieved through indiscriminate operations.
The meeting was further briefed that efforts to restore the historical glory and enhance the beauty of the provincial capital, Peshawar, are progressing. These include improvements to flyovers, installation of new lights, replacement of curb stones, rehabilitation of green belts, and beautification of pedestrian bridges. In addition, steps are being taken to promote tourism, alongside the refurbishment of 10 BRT feeder buses and 7 BRT stations.
Progress was also reported on initiatives aimed at attracting investment, including legislative measures for the establishment of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Private Partnership Authority and the introduction of environment-friendly EV rickshaws.
To ensure integrated urban planning and environmental protection, the meeting was informed that master planning of 20 districts has been completed in the first phase. Master planning for key tourist destinations—Galiyat, Kaghan, Naran, Batta Kundi, Bahrain, Madain, Mankial, Kalam, Mahodand and Kumrat—is also underway. Work on the second phase, covering an additional 12 districts, is in progress.
The Chief Secretary was also briefed that the national measles and rubella vaccination campaign has been successfully completed across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
