Peshawar: The 58th convocation of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) was held with dignity and grace in Peshawar, where 465 specialists were awarded degrees, including 438 Fellows and 27 Members. The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an followed by the national anthem, after which the formal proceedings commenced. Professor Najeeb-ul-Haq C.G and Professor Mian Gul Mehmood Aurangzeb, Dean Khyber Medical College, attended as guests of honour.
Senior faculty members from medical colleges and teaching hospitals across the country, CPSP council members, provincial and district representatives, new fellows, their parents and other distinguished guests attended the event in large numbers. Notable participants included Professor Abdul Samad, Nasir Saeed, Attaullah Jan, “Baba-e-Medicine” Zafar Hayat, Mumtaz Marwat, Nasir Orakzai, Abdul Janan Orakzai, Siddiq-ur-Rehman, Mir Alam Jan, Masood-ur-Rehman, Rashid, and senior officers of the Army Medical Corps.
The ceremony arrangements were managed by a committee comprising Controller of Examinations Muhammad Faisal, Amber, G.M. Faqeer Gul Shah, Dr. Ada Hameed, and Dr. Attaullah Khan. CPSP Regional Director Peshawar, Professor Waqar Alam Jan, administered the oath of professional responsibility, service to humanity, transparency, and medical ethics to the new fellows.
The gold medal for outstanding performance in postgraduate examinations was awarded to Dr. Muhammad Osama, whose citation was presented by CPSP Abbottabad Regional Director Muhammad Jehangir Khan.
In his welcome address, President CPSP Professor Khalid Masood Gondal congratulated all fellows, their parents, and teachers. He paid tribute to the sacrifices of parents and the dedicated efforts of faculty members. He highlighted that CPSP degrees are internationally recognized in the UK, Ireland, the Middle East, Europe, and South Asia, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to producing highly skilled specialists for the country.
Senior faculty, consultants from teaching and district hospitals, and institutional representatives praised the current CPSP leadership—particularly President Professor Khalid Masood Gondal and Senior Vice President Professor Muhammad Shoaib Shafi—for their reforms, institutional improvements, and academic progress.
Guest of Honour Professor Mian Gul Mehmood Aurangzeb commended CPSP’s transparent examination system, strong academic discipline, and merit-based environment, expressing confidence that the new fellows would contribute effectively to strengthening the national healthcare system.
Professor Najeeb-ul-Haq, Professor Zafar Hayat, Professor Nasir, Dr. Abdul Janan Orakzai, Professor Masood-ur-Rehman, and other consultants and parents appreciated the CPSP leadership’s vision and paid tribute to the President and Senior Vice President. The leadership advised the graduates to uphold sincerity, honesty, service, and humility as core professional values.
In the concluding session, the CPSP President and Senior Vice President awarded degrees and honorary shields, followed by group photographs. Delegates presented honorary gifts to the leadership in recognition of institutional transparency and academic excellence. Renowned physician Professor Zafar Hayat presented bouquets to the President and Senior Vice President, and children of fellows also presented flowers.
During the convocation, CPSP awarded the Special Shield of Honour to the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, and Dr. Abdul Janan Orakzai for their distinguished services to the institution and humanity.
The 58th convocation marks a significant milestone in the history of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, reflecting its commitment to academic excellence, social service, and the continued development of trained medical specialists in the country.
