PESHAWAR: Aakif Azeem, a survivor of the attack on Army Public School (APS) Peshawar and co-founder of Elemental Studios, has announced that he is working on developing a powerful new documentary exploring the events of December 16, 2014, the lasting impact on survivors, and the broader context of terrorism in Pakistan. The documentary is slated for release in 2026.

“I lost four friends I had been studying with since grade four,” shares Aakif. “Surviving that day left me with questions, memories, and responsibilities that I carry with me every day. My life is now about honoring their dreams and ensuring the world never forgets what happened.”

Through a combination of survivor testimonies, archival footage, and personal reflections, the documentary will explore not only the APS tragedy but also the historical and geopolitical events that shaped modern terrorism in Pakistan, linking global moments like 9/11 to local consequences. It will address themes of national resilience, cultural impact, and the unseen psychological trauma borne by survivors.

Elemental Studios, co-founded by Aakif, focuses on storytelling for social impact. The studio aims to use this film to raise awareness, foster dialogue, and honor the resilience of those affected by terrorism.

“This film is a tribute to my friends, my classmates, and everyone whose lives were touched by these events,” Aakif says. “It is a story of loss, courage, and the ongoing struggle to heal and rebuild.”

The project benefits from the guidance of Tariq Cheema, MD, a renowned social innovator and philanthropist, and Syed Aamir Masood, a lawyer, writer, and education advocate, whose expertise and networks support the film’s development and outreach.
