MARDAN: Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti on Saturday condemned the attack on a mosque near the Kohat Police Lines, saying such an assault was against both humanity and the teachings of Islam.
In a statement, Mr Hoti said no one could be allowed to attack a sacred place such as a mosque.
He said the attack was not merely an assault on police or security personnel, but also an attack on the Pashtuns of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muslims and humanity as a whole.
Mr Hoti said the law and order situation in the province was deteriorating with each passing day.
He questioned the government over the resurgence of terrorism, saying the people were justified in asking: “If terrorist attacks during our tenure were linked to dollars, whose dollars are behind the attacks taking place today? Who is receiving the dollars now, and why is terrorism being allowed to resurface?”
The former chief minister said the government’s primary responsibility was to protect the lives and property of citizens and ensure peace in the province.
“The people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa can no longer afford further terrorism, unrest and an atmosphere of fear,” he said.
Mr Hoti called on the state and the government to adopt an effective strategy to eliminate terrorism and establish lasting peace through practical measures instead of engaging in political blame games.
