Sports Promotion in Kohistan Top Priority, Says Sports Adviser Taj Muhammad Khan

LOWER KOHISTAN: Adviser to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sports and Youth Affairs, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, has said that promoting sports in Kohistan and other remote areas is among the provincial government’s top priorities, adding that every effort is being made to provide the youth with healthy and positive opportunities.

He expressed these views while attending the final of the PPL Cricket Tournament in Lower Kohistan as the chief guest, where a large number of cricket enthusiasts witnessed an exciting contest between Jalkot Zalmi and Kohistan Sultan. Kohistan Sultan emerged victorious after a thrilling final to lift the tournament trophy.

The event was also attended by MPA Engineer Sajjadullah, PTI Lower Kohistan President Ehsanullah, PTI Upper Kohistan President Zia-ul-Haq Khankhel, the District Police Officer, Additional Deputy Commissioner, District Health Officer, government officials, political and social personalities, and local residents.

Addressing the ceremony, MPA Engineer Sajjadullah requested the Sports Adviser to upgrade part of the cricket ground to provide better facilities for local players. Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand assured participants that the ground would be upgraded, saying the provincial government was committed to improving sports infrastructure in underserved areas.

The Sports Adviser appreciated the organisers for successfully conducting the tournament and announced a cash award of Rs500,000 for the organising committee. He also announced Rs200,000 for the winning team, Rs150,000 for the runners-up, along with cash prizes for outstanding players and individuals who excelled during the tournament.

He said the KP government is focusing on sports development to engage youth in constructive activities, adding that such events help promote talent, strengthen unity and brotherhood, and contribute to a peaceful and healthy society.

Tarand reiterated that the provincial government would continue to encourage sports activities and nurture young talent across remote districts, including Kohistan, enabling youth to showcase their abilities on larger platforms.
